Dr. M.A. Rao who was born on 2nd February 1950 had his DHMS from Dr. Jaisoory Govt. Homoeopathic Medical College, Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh in the year 1974. He did his Graded BHMS from Nagarjuna University Andhra Pradesh in the year 1985. He got his M.D (Hom) from Amravati University Maharashtra in the year 2005. Up on his selection to Central Services he was posted as Medical Officer in the Union Territory of Arunachal Pradesh in the North East India in the year 1980. He had pioneered Homoeopathy in Lohit valley in Arunachal Pradesh till 1986.

At the end of 1986, he was posted to the Central Govt. Health Scheme Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. He worked there till the end of 1989 and joined in Central Govt. Health Scheme Nagpur Maharashtra on transfer. During his career in Central Govt. he served at various capacities starting from Medical Officer to Senior Chief Medical Officer in the department. He had retired from Govt. service in February 2010 after an illustrious career and rejoined again as consultant till 2015 in the same capacity.

He is a well known figure in Nagpur and also in various Central Govt. Departments. In addition to his duties in CGHS Dr. Rao had also served as Secretary Central Govt. Employees Welfare Co-ordination Committee (High power Committee of Govt. of India), Secretary Central Govt. officers Institute, Area Welfare Officer for Central Govt. Employees and Member of the Management Committee of Central School Nagpur. He is associated with many welfare programs for Central Govt. Employees. He was also Officer Incharge of Grih Kalyan Kendras in Nagpur for more than 20 years. During his tenure in CGHS he was sent to Health Management Training at IIT Kharagpur and Institute of Management in Govt. Thiruvananthapuram Kerala. He also had a training in NABH Delhi.

Dr. Rao is associated with IIHP right from his graduation in Homoeopathy. He was the IIHP Co-ordinator for North Eastern States, President of IIHP Maharashtra State branch and Secretary General IIHP for one term. He was the Organizing Secretary of 17th National Homoeopathic Congress of IIHP at Nagpur in September 1997, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of 24th National Homoeopathic Congress of IIHP and Advisor to IIHP. He is regularly conducting Seminars and CME Programs in Nagpur for the benefit of Homoeopaths. He is elected as National President of IIHP in February 2016. He was an approved Guide for students of M.D (Hom) of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. Even after his retirement he is asked to continue as Secretary Central Govt. Employees Welfare Co-Ordination Committee Govt. of India in a Honorary Capacity, and continuing as Member of the Central Schools Management Committee in Nagpur.

Dr. Rao is also deeply involved in Socio-Cultural events in Nagpur and organized several Cultural programs inviting artists from various states. He is the President of Honour of Telugu Samskrutika Sangham Nagpur. Dr. Rao is instrumental in forming IIHP Overseas Group and IIHP USA Group. He is also instrumental in organizing IIHP Hahnemann Memorial Europe Tour in June 2017 that was a great success. He has visited USA, U.K, UAE, Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland.
